Back in Bristol, I found myself at a crossroads. I was working as a musician for disabled children, running my own studio, and faced with a decision: should I buy a car or a guitar? It didn’t take long for me to choose the guitar.
I went down to a Spanish guitar shop in Bristol and found a handmade guitar from Valencia. From the moment I picked it up, I knew it was special. The feel, the sound—it just resonated with me. I invested in some modifications, fitting it with a high-quality pickup, which enhanced its versatility and allowed me to develop a unique style.
The nylon strings and deep bass of the guitar opened up a world of creative possibilities. I could blend bass lines, rhythm, and snare-like sounds to make the guitar feel like a full band. That versatility became the cornerstone of my playing, especially when covering songs. Playing funk and rhythm-heavy styles on a flamenco guitar added a distinctive twist that set my sound apart.
Since I bought it in 2001, this guitar has been my constant companion, travelling with me around the world. It’s played for all kinds of audiences, from affluent professionals to strangers on the street. Whether performing in restaurants and bars, jamming with friends, or busking for tips, this guitar has brought joy to people from all walks of life.
For me, this guitar is more than just an instrument. It’s a reminder of the power of music to connect and uplift. It’s been my most treasured possession, and over the years, it’s shaped my sound and my journey as a musician.
